Austin City Limits: John Fogerty

There are the extraordinary personalities that shaped the history of Rock’n’Roll. Musicians that devoted with heart and soul, that ate one’s heart out and now and again shattered too due to the contradiction of creativity and commercial consideration. John Fogerty is one of those who shattered in this sump of playful passion and insolent bustle. In the 60s he found together with his brother “Creedence Clearwater Revival” and with two and three minutes songs containing shameless plausibility and folk musical simplicity he defended the plain down-to-earthness of the American tradition of music. Between 1968 and 1972 the four Californians recorded four albums that sold more than 100 Million copies and left therefore the rock music history some of their best classics. Fogerty’s rights on revenues from his work were withheld due to a scandalous contract with Fantasy Records. That is why he refused to play his own songs for almost 30 years. Only after the sale of the label and agreement with the new owners Fogerty starts to play his almost unending repertoire again. He undergoes a thing like a second spring with a superb band in the back and an unbroken energy that is quickly brought forward to the audience. The comeback of John Fogerty is one of the nicest revivals of the music business.
